2004 - December Holiday : Touring the Cape Peninsula – Chapman’s Peak
I flew my sister down from JHB for a holiday in December 2004.We did the round trip starting from Houtbay following Chapman’s Peak to Cape Point and back to the starting point all along Falsebay.
Chapman's Peak Drive, hugs the near-vertical face of the mountain from Hout Bay to Noordhoek.Hacked out of the face of the mountain between 1915 and 1922, the road was at the time regarded as a major feat of engineering.
Chapman's Peak Drive was closed in the 1990s, following large rock falls, which killed a driver in her car. The road has since been reopened after being re-engineered to protect motorists from falling rocks.
